This weeks task is about creating something that floats!
Making things float must have air apart of the objects structure. Something called buoyancy; description of how afloat or buoyant something is.
What materials can be used to make things float? Wood is a perfect example as it has many little air pockets inside keeping it afloat. Some boats and canoes are made out of wood because it is reliable on water. However rocks are the opposite. They usually don't float because they lack air in them, materials like that are heavy and dense.
I can use anything that I can find in the house to create my floating invention, ANYTHING.
Once I have engineered my new invention I will need to test it!
I will Measure how far it will be able to sail and how much load it can carry before it sinks.
The material I used in the house is paper. The heavy objects I used in my experiment were marbles.
